Option Principle: Full transformation of the public realm to create a significantly enhanced shopping experience, support community events and encourage businesses to use the outdoor space.

KEY FEATURES

  • Extension of the pedestrian zone to include Sundays to provide consistency, create a better pedestrian experience everyday and improve accessibility for all users
  • Hours of the pedestrian zone to remain 10am to 4:30pm to match business licences for outdoor seating
  • Cycling allowed all day on High Street and increased cycle parking
  • Loading allowed on High Street from 4:30pm to 10am within designated bay
  • Transformation of the public realm to provide greater flexible space for community uses, including events, and create an enhanced shopping experience
  • Significant increase in planting and seating to improve the pedestrian environment and encourage people to dwell longer
  • Removal of parking on High Street to allow businesses to extend licences for outdoor seating / displays and so increase their capacity and the visibility of their shop. It also enables additional planting and public seating
  • Revised accessibility ramp by Natwest to create a more flexible community space
  • Redesign of the entries to High Street at Epsom Road and Bull Hill to increase the prominence of the town centre
  • High quality materials throughout to match Church Street
    North Street to be one-way to allow for wider footways and repositioning of the bus stop closer to High Street
  • New raised table to improve the pedestrian connection across North Street at the junction with High Street
  • Relocated disabled bays on North Street to improve the visibility of High Street and improve access for buses
