Option Principle: Designated bays on High Street to allow parking earlier in the day whilst providing a comfortable pedestrian experience.

KEY FEATURES

  • Extension of the pedestrian zone to include Sundays to provide consistency, create a better pedestrian experience and improve accessibility for all users
  • Hours of the pedestrian zone to remain 10am to 4:30pm to match business licences for outdoor seating
  • Cycling allowed all day on High Street and increased cycle parking
  • Earlier access to High Street for parking with parking allowed from 4:30pm to 8am
  • Loading allowed on High Street from 4:30pm to 10am
  • Parking and loading to be within designated bays to ensure sufficient space for pedestrians, to create a safe environment where people feel comfortable to spend time and to comply with accessibility and design requirements
  • New planting in containers where possible. Locations will be limited due to parking / loading bays, existing street furniture and the street market
  • Improved pedestrian connection across North Street at the junction with High Street
  • Relocated disabled bays on North Street to improve the visibility of High Street and improve access for buses
